COLLEGIATE SHOWCASE SERIES — ACADEMIC EVENT PROVES TO BE A BIG HIT
All Star Baseball Academy held the Academic Showcase Event on July 20-21 at Blue Rocks Stadium in Wilmington, Delaware. This event was part of ASBA’s popular Collegiate Showcase Series for players who are 15 to 18 years of age. The Academic Showcase was designed to help area players connect with top academic colleges and universities in the region. High school and Prep players in the Classes of 2011, 2012, and 2013 attended the event.
Over 90 area players participated in the Showcase to display their baseball talents in front of college coaches and recruiting coordinators. The event was held over two days at beautiful Blue Rocks Stadium, with skill evaluations and live games carried out to help the players maximize their visibility to regional colleges.
The Academic Showcase helped players connect with top academic programs from leagues such as the Ivy League and Patriot League. Colleges participating at the Academic Showcase included: Richmond, Bucknell, Lafayette, Lehigh, Johns Hopkins, Penn, Yale, Franklin and Marshall, and Georgetown.
"We had a great group of college coaches participating from some of the top academic institutions in the East," said Creighton Gubanich, On Field Coordinator from All Star Baseball and a former Major League catcher. “The talent level was excellent and the coaches gave players important tips while also evaluating their skills and speed.”
Area players got the opportunity to showcase their hitting, fielding, and throwing talents and also showed off their speed in two sets of a 60 yard dash. On the second day, players were divided up into four teams and played “live games” against pitchers throwing their best stuff. The college coaches were also divided up to run their respective teams, and two college coaches were in each dugout. The live games were closely contested and the Academic Showcase proved to be a successful event for both the players and the coaches who attended.
